We are beginning a new blog series called Foundations. This series was born out of a burden God placed on my heart during sabbatical — a burden that grew through countless conversations with Christians who simply did not know the foundational truths of the Christian faith.
Not because they didn’t love Jesus.
Not because they didn’t want to grow.
But because the world is loud, life is busy, and the church (at times) assumes people know things that were never taught.
This matters deeply — because our foundation shapes our faith.
My heart is that every one of us would stand firm in Jesus and spend eternity together with Him — celebrating, rejoicing, worshiping, and remembering how God carried us through this life.
That starts with returning to the basics of faith:
Who God is.
What His Word is.
Why His truth matters.
How we live in the world without being shaped by it.
Recently, researcher George Barna released a study that shows where faith stands in America. The results were eye-opening — part encouraging, part alarming.
From 2021–2024, there has been a 12% increase in people returning to church.
This growth is being led by Gen Z and Millennials — especially young men.
The younger generation is searching again — longing for meaning, truth, and stability.
This is a revival seed.
And it’s growing in traditional churches, contemporary churches, small churches, and large ones.
People are coming back — because life has felt uncertain, chaotic, and heavy. They are looking for something real again.
At the same time:
Only 66% of Americans identify as Christian — down from 90%+ in the late 1990s.
61–69% of practicing Christians now say there is no absolute truth.
Most people determine right and wrong based on:
Personal feelings
Changing circumstances
Public opinion
But feelings can lie, circumstances can shift overnight, and public opinion changes with every viral trend.
This has resulted in:
Confusion about morality
Uncertainty about Scripture
Redefining core Christian beliefs
Eroding trust in the Bible
The bottom line:
We are no longer living in a Christian culture.
We are living in a secular culture that values the present moment above eternal truth.
And that’s why foundations matter.
Many people hear the word “secular” but don’t know what it means.
Secularism means:
Living only for the present moment, without acknowledging God, eternity, accountability, or the lessons of the past.
In a secular culture:
Feelings outweigh truth
Convenience outweighs conviction
Self replaces God
The temporary outweighs the eternal
But as followers of Jesus, we are called to be different.
Not louder.
Not angrier.
Not more political.
Just more rooted.
Rooted in Christ.
Rooted in grace.
Rooted in Scripture.
The first words of Scripture are foundational:
“In the beginning, God…” — Genesis 1:1
This is where our worldview starts.
Not with politics.
Not with culture.
Not with personal preference.
With God.
John echoes the same beginning when speaking about Jesus:
“In the beginning was the Word… and the Word was God.” — John 1:1–5
Jesus is not just a historical figure.
Not just a teacher.
Not just a miracle worker.
Jesus is God — eternal, present before creation, the Light that no darkness can overcome.
And if He is God —
then His Word matters.
His truth matters.
His authority matters.
This is important to say clearly and lovingly:
We are a church that teaches the Bible — fully, joyfully, and unapologetically.
Here’s what that means:
The Bible is not about us — it is God revealing Himself to us.
Yet everything in it is for us — to give strength, wisdom, direction, forgiveness, hope, and endurance.
The Bible is the most historically verifiable book in existence:
10,000+ ancient manuscripts
Unmatched accuracy across generations
The Dead Sea Scrolls confirmed the faithfulness of preservation word-for-word
God did not allow His Word to be lost.
God still uses His Word to change lives today.
Anyone who has felt comfort, conviction, peace, or clarity from Scripture — knows this to be true.
When our beliefs, desires, culture, or politics disagree with Scripture —
Scripture wins.
Not because God is controlling —
but because He is loving and His ways lead to life.
His Word reshapes our:
Priorities
Identity
Relationships
Hope
Purpose
Spiritual growth begins where surrender begins.
This is where many people struggle.
If Scripture says one thing
and culture says another —
we must choose Scripture.
If Scripture says one thing
and our feelings say another —
we must choose Scripture.
Not because it’s easy.
But because truth leads to life, and truth belongs to God.
When we trust God’s Word — even when it is hard — our lives change.
When we ignore it — even when it feels easier — our lives unravel.
Science affirms there is a beginning.
This means the origin of existence must answer one question:
Did nothing create something — or did something create something?
If there was a beginning, then there was a Beginner.
Creation requires a Creator.
Design requires a Designer.
Purpose requires a Purposer.
The Bible answers that plainly:
In the beginning, God created.
Our world is not an accident.
Your life is not random.
Your existence is not meaningless.
You were created with intention, purpose, value, and identity —
by a God who loves you more than you know.
This series — Foundations — is about rebuilding what faith is built on:
Who God is
Why the Bible is trustworthy
How salvation works
What it means to follow Jesus
How to live in a culture drifting away from truth
This is not about “being right.”
It’s about knowing the One who makes us whole.
This is about building a faith that lasts.
This is about coming home to what is true.
The world feels loud.
Confusing.
Divided.
Heavy.
But God has not changed.
His truth has not changed.
His love has not changed.
His promises have not changed.
Hold onto what is true.
Stand firm on what never shifts.
Build your life on the foundation that lasts.
There is hope.
There is purpose.
There is joy.
There is eternity.
And Jesus is the center of it all.
